Question Will I enjoy this?

Hey all, I have played nearly all MMORPGs to date, Loved them all equally. MMOing is my hobby, my life really *To young to get job+Homeschooled*. I have been playing WoW, it lasted me 7 months and now I cant stand it anymore... time to move on.

I played GuildWars in beta, bearly. The way they set up beta killed my chance of having fun due to me being on a 56k line that downloads at 2kb a second. Therefore I was unable to experience anything other then the starting zone.

I am thinking about trying it again, since all the maps will be on a disc I wont have to worry about leaving my PC on all night to download town... but then I got to thinking. Level 20? seems a bit low and I know it has purpose, but is it keeping everyones interest? There doesnt seem to be very deep leveling in this game compared to others and thats the main reason I belived people spent their time playing them, to progress.

I would hope the PVP aspect hype that this game gets is worth it, because if it isnt, there really isnt much to this game... is there? I don't know, I need you guys to tell me. How do you like it? is it interesting and fun? Is it something you feel you put alot of time into?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, this is really helping me out more then you think.

If you're still on that dial-up connection and it really does only handle 2Kb/sec then expect horrendous lag.

If all other MMOs worked for me like FFXI and WoW, why wont this?

If they worked fine then this game may actually work fine too, actually. Are you sure it's slithering at 2k and not 5-8k like regular dial-up?

When I got to download a file, it downloads at 2.6K - 3.5k, so... yeah unfortunitly. Is there anyway I can speed it up? Any reason it is this slow? I might need help fixing it so I can enjoy this game.

You can probably expect to wait about an hour or more every time you load a zone for the first time, but after that they should load fairly quickly.

PS At first I thought your avatar was a dead bunny in a pile of ground meat

When you enter either a new or changed zone you need to d/l files to update your copy to the latest version. I think this is a better way really, seeing as when you run the game all it d/l's and installs is the main game patches and then just d/l's what you need as/when you need it rather than forcing you to d/l everything right at once.

I'm playing GW on dial-up and don't really notice the lag too much (tho I admittidly play solo a lot.. not because of dial-up, but cuz I don't really know ppl :P and mayby cuz I don't have a lvl 20 or ascended char and never finished the game either. LOL). And yes, it can be somewhat frustrating when I hit a new or changed zone to have to sit for a few minutes wating for it to d/l the updated files.... but even at 2 kb/sec I don't see you have'ing to wait hours when you hit a new or changed zone - although your initial updating of the client might very well take an hour..

But once you have d/l the updated client and/or zones you don't need to worry and can just keep on playing.. at least till the next patch, when you'll have to wait while your client gets patched.. and then only have to wait for the zones that you go to to get updated assuming that they have been patched/updated since you last visited them.. and any zones that have been updated but you don't go to just will sit there waiting till you go to them till they get updated.

So basically the updates have 2 componentes.

1. The main client/engine upgrade/patch - this runs when you run GW and needs to be done b4 you can get into the game.

2. Zone/Area patch's/update's - these only run when you go to that zone. If you never go to a zone, it never gets updated. These only d/l if there is an patch/updrage there to d/l, otherwise you go through the short loading screen to the new zone without d/l anything.

The zone/area patch's don't seem to be too big - I just recently started a new character and had to d/l a new patch.. which was ~400 kb iirc. So might take a bit of time when you 1st hit a new zone, but it's not that bad really. I do it on dial-up.. and I'm sure there are plenty of others who play the game on dial-up.

I gotta say I'm very impressed with GW in the way how easy it is for me to play on dial-up.. altho I don't know what it's like with other players.. as I play solo .. hehehehe.. but from what I've heard it's not as bad as some games are/use to be like.. hehehe./. D2 comes to mind :P

Thanks for all that information. I can do 400kb easy and with all that I have been through *Downloaded 1Gb once* 1 hour is nothing! ^^
